Full-Field Vibration Measurements by Using High-Speed Two-Dimensional Digital Image Correlation

This work developed a method that uses single monochrome high-speed camera without sacrificing the spatial resolution to measure both in-plane and out-of-plane full-field vibrations. By using two-dimensional digital image correlation (2D-DIC) algorithm, first extracts displacement field from measured virtual strains. Then it retrieves after eliminating motion-induced component. For validation, translation tests single-frequency vibration experiments were carried out. The measurement results show good agreement with reference values, indicating effectiveness of proposed 2D-DIC (HS-2D-DIC). Further, natural frequencies mode shapes rectangular cantilever panel also successfully, exhibiting method’s in practical applications. Since HS-2D-DIC requires only camera, no complex optical setup, complicated calibration process, can be as competitive tool for characterizations.
